Coming up on RoundAbout . . . we gaze into our collective crystal ball in an attempt to predict what’s going to happen next year. Is 2012 really the end of the world or do our automotive mediums have happier news? Keep on listening . . .

It’s that time of year again. Sure, it is National Bath Safety Month but it’s also the season where we cover more ground than marathon runners; break ribs like passengers in the Tokyo subway as we get crushed in media scrums; and test our survival skills, subsisting almost exclusively off of room-temperature turkey wraps and stale cookies from the media lounge. That’s right, January only means one thing. It’s the Detroit Auto Show, baby! What BIG reveals are on the docket for 2011? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Buick will unveil its new compact sedan, the Verano. Porsche *may* take the wraps off a new supercar in a much-rumored production-version of the 918 Spyder. Chevy will premiere its replacement for the moribund Aveo, called the Sonic. Enjoy all that and more on this week’s admittedly abbreviated installment of RoundAbout, #66, the “NAIAS 2011 Preview” episode.

Well, were we right? Last year the RoAb crew tried to predict the future, or at least 2010. Did we hit the nail on the head or were we way out in left field? Zach Bowman, Eric Trytko and Craig Cole each peered into their respective crystal balls, in a vain attempt to divine what’s coming. This year, Colin Bird, Michelle Naranjo, Jeff Ross and Steven Ewing join the trio of soothsayers to act as a jury, voting said predictions up or down. So, who was right? Who was wrong? Who cares? Listen to find out.

We're thankful for nothing if not the loyal fans that make RoundAbout worth every bit of effort we put into the show each week. So, to show our appreciation, enjoy a special 'Turkeys' episode of RoundAbout where we discuss some automotive duds and deadweights. This week we're also debuting our Holiday Gift Guide that will give you some ideas for the car guys and gals in your life. We'll have show notes available later in the week for the stuff we mentioned in the show, but for now we're keeping it easy and concentrating on spending time with our families. You do the same, 'kay?

After flying up to the Mitten State to test-drive the new Chevy Volt, Jefferson Ross joins us LIVE in the RoundAbout studios to record this week’s show, our 54th installment, the “Huckster” episode. Also joining us, Mirko Reinhardt makes his second audio “appearance” on the program, Skyping-in from across the Atlantic in Germany. We’ve got an all-around conniving lineup of stories this week ranging from those confidence tricksters at BMW building engines with defective turbochargers to a group of parking-lot attendants that actually weren’t, and made off with loads of people’s cash. Fanning the flim-flam flames, that “builder” of luxury EVs, Fisker, launches its online vehicle configuator so you can pick all the options you want in your favorite car that will never be built. We cover all of these topics and many more including our first-ever “Autobahn Anecdote” as well as a specially themed edition of “The Price is Correct,” the cars that Jonathan Brown would hate. DO NOT miss out on this week’s installment of RoundAbout, #54, the “Huckster” episode.
